Where is the fuel pump fuse on a 2008 Scion XD? ›

It's in the fuse/relay box, under the dash, on the driver's side. To access the fuel pump, you need to remove the rear seat cushion.

Engine fuse boxes are typically situated near the battery. In this vehicle, the battery is on the driver's side, and there is a fuse box right above it with a black plastic cover to protect the fuses. On the passenger side, there is also a battery, and the fuse box is located nearby.

Among other things, the engine compartment fuses protect functions related to the engine and the brake system. Special pliers are housed on the inside of the cover to facilitate replacement of tripped fuses.

The most common sign of a bad fuel pump relay is an engine that cranks but doesn't start. A fuel pump relay will typically fail in the open position, preventing voltage from reaching the fuel pump. As a result, the engine will be starved of fuel and refuse to run.

Testing Switch Pin Continuity

The switch pins on a Normally Open (NO) circuit should have no continuity when not energized. Use a multimeter on the ohms setting to measure resistance between the switch pins. Any resistance indicates the pins are stuck closed, signaling a faulty relay.

Open the breaker box door. Find the breaker that has tripped by looking for one that is out of alignment with the rest (some models will be labeled “off” or “on” to indicate the position). Reset the breaker by flipping it all the way off. Wait 10 seconds, and then flip the breaker back to the “on” position.
