What is a flatbread?

Flatbread is a type of bread prepared mainly using flour, water and salt which is then rolled into flattened dough. Most of the flatbreads are unleavened, although some are leavened like pita bread and pizza dough. These flatbreads are incredibly delicious, soft and chewy, super easy to make.

Is flatbread healthy?

Definitely yes. Like I always say, homemade breads are more healthier than any store bought or restaurant ones as you have control over all the ingredients. To make it part of your healthy diet and lifestyle you can even use whole grain flours, and low fat options. You can add healthy ingredients like flax seeds, chia seeds, ground almonds, cashews, etc. while preparing the dough - as these ingredients will also add unique taste and texture to the flatbreads.

How to make soft homemade flatbread from scratch?

To make flatbreads at home, mix flour with ingredients mentioned in the recipe. Form dough, rest the prepared dough for a while, and then divide into equal portions. Roll it out to flattened dough. Then cook it in oven, cast iron skillet, or tava, or even grill it. Adding oil while cooking flatbreads is totally optional.

I love the entire process of preparing bread at home. It may be with or without yeast. Some breads can even be prepared in less than 30 minutes.

You might see that I have mentioned in some recipes to add either butter or oil. If you are non-vegan then feel free to use butter. My family loves it both the ways. I hope these simple bread recipes will encourage you to make more breads at home 🙂
