Pico De Gallo Recipe (2024)

Pico De Gallo has always been one of my most requested recipes. I usually take a large bowl to parties and potlucks. It's always one of the first things to get devoured. This Pico De Gallo has a simple list of ingredients but fresh squeezed orange along with the lime juice is one of the ingredients that makes this so addicting and why I always get asked for the recipe. Ripe tomatoes, shredded cabbage, shredded carrots, red onion, pickled jalapeños, fresh jalapeños, and cilantro give this Pico De Gallo an irresistible fresh taste that keeps you going back for more.

Other favorite dips we like to serve at parties like Super Bowl include Chili Con Queso, Habanero Pineapple Blueberry Salsa, and Greek Feta Dip.

Pico De Gallo Recipe (1)

Pico De Gallo is one of those recipes that is really easy to learn how to make.

We make Pico De Gallo a lot, and I mean a lot! And we always make a ridiculously large batch of it.

The ingredients for Cabbage Pico De Gallo are a little different than most recipes. This is roughly based on a favorite Mexican Restaurant we used to go to a long time ago. The freshly shredded cabbage adds a nice freshness plus texture to the recipe. It's a little different but you have to try it! It is so delicious! Fresh jalapeño, pickled jalapeño, lime, and fresh squeezed orange balance out the acid and heat.

I always think there is no way we will eat all of this before it goes bad. Then I head to the fridge the next day and guess what, it's gone. Totally devoured!

One of the things that's always requested if we are going to a party is a giant bowl and by giant bowl I mean the biggest mixing bowl I have in the house full of Cabbage Pico De Gallo.

Pico De Gallo is as much a staple in our house as Taco Tuesdays, and I know you'll love it as much as we do so I thought I would add an updated pic, and re-share this oldie but a goodie!

*Old Post*

This recipes comes courtesy of Pastor Nik! Ok just kidding!

We went over to Nik and Heathers for Super Bowl and Nik went on to tell everyone he had made the Pico De Gallo. If you got to know our Pastor you would learn he's such a prankster!

But hiswife Heather did make a really tasty Crock Pot Beef Sandwich with Caramelized Onions ( still drooling thinking of there tastiness) and Andrea had made a super tasty Brownie with Peanut Butter Swirl. I'm still thinking about all the yummy good.

Here's how to make Pico De Gallo:

Pico De Gallo Recipe (3)

Dice 2 pounds Tomatoes. I will usually purchase whatever tomatoes are ripest but firm at the store.

It usually ends up being Roma Tomatoes or the Vine Ripe Tomatoes, but it varies through out the year.

Pico De Gallo Recipe (4)

Shred 1/2 a whole Small Head Cabbage. I use to do this with a knife and chop it fine, but I usually just use my Food Processor anymore to save time.

Shed 2 whole Carrots and 1/2 a whole Red Onion

Add everything to the Tomatoes.

Pico De Gallo Recipe (5)

Chop finely 1-2 whole Jalapeños. I usually will remove the seeds, but you can leave them if you like your Pico De Gallo hotter.

Chop 1/4 cup Pickled Jalapeños. Add jalapeños to tomatoes.

Pico De Gallo Recipe (6)

Stir in:

  • 1/2 bunch of Cilantro Finely Diced
  • Juice of 1/2 whole Orange
  • Juice of 2 whole Limes
  • 1 tablespoon Pickled Jalapeño Juice
  • 1 teaspoon Granulated Garlic
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt or To Taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon Pepper or To Taste

Mix until well combined and refrigerate for at least 2 hours to let the flavors develop.

Pico De Gallo is sometimes referred to as Salsa Fresco which is an uncooked style of Salsa. Pico De Gallo is always chunkier then salsa which sometimes even comes pureed. It originated from Mexico.

I can't promise you this recipe is authentic but I can promise you it's delicious!
